PS561: Hotdogs too Good For The Lunch Line

I can hear you saying to yourself  "What is PS561"?  Well PS561 is a Gourmet Hotdog Food Truck that is modeled after a Public School Bus. The Hotdogs on the menu have names such as The FCAT topped with bacon, sweet slaw, jalapenos, and BBQ Sauce, The Math Wiz "Bahn Mi" style topped with Asian slaw and Sriracha mayo, The Hall Monitor topped with Sauerkraut, swiss, and 1000 Island dressing, The All City topped with Sauerkraut, onion, and spicy mustard, The Middle Schooler topped with ketchup and yellow mustard , and The Doug E. Fresh which is topped with bacon cheddar, BBQ sauce, onion and Cilantro cream sauce. They use 100% All Beef hotdogs that are split and griddled and stuffed onto a New England style hotdog bun that is made fresh a local bakery. They also serve "Smart" veggie dog upon request. I myself can honestly say that every Dog on the menu and I do have a few of favorites. My three favorite Dogs are The Doug E. Fresh, The FCAT, and The Math Wiz. Every time that I stop at PS561  I have one sometimes two of my three favorite Dogs whether I am hungry or not that is how good they are. With that being said I highly recommend that you chase down PS561 and give their Hotdogs a try for yourself. To find out where PS561 will next you can follow them on their Facebook Page.

White Crescent Burgers

Well I am a little behind with this post, but what else is new! A few week ago my buddy Tom and I decided to try White Crescent Burgers- "Home of the Moonie".  Today I choose to try the special which was the Full Moon Burger with Spicy Seasoned Waffle Fries. It was an 8oz burger(Always Fresh, Never Frozen 100% Hereford Beef 80-20 Chuck) with three types of cheeses and bacon. When it comes to toppings for the burger they have a Fixins Bar with all the usual suspects that you put on the burger yourself. The burger came out cooked perfectly and very juicy and well seasoned. You could instantly tell that they use Always Fresh, Never Frozen Burgers! Once the burger was in my hands it did not get put back down on the plate that is how good the burger was. I have only been to one other place where I have done that with a burger and will write about that place very soon. The fries were your typical waffle fries, but topped with the Spicy Season that they use it put the fries over the top and were excellent.

The next time I go to White Crescent Burgers, I am going to give the Moonies(Their version of a slider) and their wings a try. They have a sauce for the wings call Loonie(Hotter than Hot) which I am now curious to see how hot it really is. They do offer a Full Menu at White Crescent Burgers that ranges from Burger to Hotdogs, Sandwiches and even wings. This is one place that I highly recommend if you enjoy a great burger.

Miami Food Trucks at Wynwood Art Walk

On Saturday July 9th I made the hour drive south to the Miami Food Trucks at Wynwood Art Walk, which takes place the second Saturday of every month.  My good friend Leah S. went with me on this Food Truck journey. When we arrived in the Wynwood Art District in Miami, there were several food trucks lining the street and then a huge empty lot filled with about 25 more trucks appeared further down the street as we looked for a place to park.  The first truck we stopped at was Mr. Good Stuff's Food Truck were we had their 4 Cheesy My Neezy. The 4 Cheesy My Neezy are deep fried cheese bites stuffed with 4 cheeses (Cheddar, Gorgonzola, Mozzarella & Provolone) served with a spicy guava dipping sauce. I must say and think that Leah would agree with me that these were quit delicious. They also have a cilantro and garlic sauce that went well with the 4 Cheesy My Neezy. The next stop was Jefe's Original Fish Taco and Burger. Leah had an Ensenada Fish Taco and I had a  Tacos Carnitas. The tacos lacked some flavor, but the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. Our third stop was Ms Cheezious for some cheese fries. These cheese fries were very good. You could tell that the fries and cheese sauce were fresh.(By the way later that night at the bar Leah ordered cheese fries from there also. She really likes cheese fries)  For dessert we had Mango Popsicles from Feverish Ice Cream Truck. They offer Gourmet Popsicles with fresh fruit blended into them. The popsicle was very refreshing and you could actually see the chunks of fresh mango in it. My final stop was The Rolling Stove to get something to go for lunch on Sunday. The Rolling Stove is actually the first ever Food Truck that I ate from, but more on that story another time. I decided to get the Chicken Crisper. It is chicken strips coated in Captain Crunch cereal, and has grilled onions, coleslaw, cheddar cheese sauce on texas toast. I have had this sandwich hot from the truck before, but this time I ate it cold the next day and I must say that it is unbelievably delicious cold as it is hot.

There are a lot of cool art galleries up and down the streets in the area, and it has a really cool vibe going on. The Miami Food Trucks at Wynwood Art Walk is something that I highly suggest checking out and I myself will be going back to it again to try some different trucks.

Red Eye BBQ Food Truck

Red Eye BBQ

So I was in Orlando this past weekend and of course while I was there I had to look for a Food Truck to try. Well the story actually goes like this. Several weeks ago my buddy Thomas mentioned that he is going to Orlando for a AAU Baseball Tournament for his son, and a light goes off in my head. I was like maybe I will come up and catch a game over the weekend, but my true motive was to try some of Orlando's Food Trucks. Well I actually only caught up with one truck around 1pm after driving two and a half hours to Orlando, and it was Red Eye BBQ. We found Red Eye BBQ parked at the Dr Phillips Farmers Market on Saturday. As soon as I step out of the car all I can smell is the aroma of Smoked Meat. The first this I see on the menu is something called the Big Daddy, it is a Cheese Burger topped with Pulled BBQ Pork and Mac & Cheese. So of course I order it. The burger it self was cooked to perfection, the pulled pork you could tell had been smoked nice and slow for hours and the homemade BBQ sauce had a nice sweet taste to it, and the Mac & Cheese was cheesy and creamy. We also order some Loaded French Fries(Not your usual load fries). The Loaded Fries had melted cheese and enough Pulled BBQ Pork on them for multiple sandwiches. The Big Daddy sandwich was $8 and well worth it, and the Loaded Fries were $4 and worth it also. I can honestly say that next time I am in Orlando I will be chasing down the Red Eye BBQ Food Truck and try some of their other menu items such as the Baby Back Ribs, Smoked Brisket, or maybe the Smoked Sausage. So if you are in Orlando I highly suggest that you look them up on their Facebook Page go to where they are located that day and give them a try.

The Great Food Truck Race in Miami

Hodge Podge Truck

This past Saturday, I got the chance to go down to Miami with my buddy Thomas for the filming of the final leg of The Food Networks Great Food Truck Race. There were two trucks that made it to the final leg. The Great Food Truck Race pits 8 Food Trucks from across the country against each other in a race across the country. They go from city to city that are pre-selected trying to be the last Truck standing in the final city, and take home the $100,000 Grand Prize.

The two trucks that made the final in Miami are the Hodge Podge Truck from Cleveland, Ohio and The Lime Truck from Irvine, California. Because we only had a limited amount of time we were only able to catch up with The Hodge Podge Truck. We tried the Rib-eye Tacos and Fish Tacos from their menu that also included items such as Crab Dip, Mahi Mahi Tartar, and Sweet Potato Tater Tots. The Rib-eye Tacos were made with 100% Certified Angus Rib-eye and topped with coleslaw, jalapeƱo's, and a BBQ sauce. The Fish Tacos were made with fresh fish and topped with coleslaw, sliced peaches, and a lemon aioli. With just trying these two different tacos I think Chef Chris and his crew on The Hodge Podge truck are well on their way to winning the Great Food Truck Race and the $100,000 Grand Prize.

Although I only got to try The Hodge Podge Truck today, I want to also say good luck to the Chef and Crew of The Lime Truck.

Curbside Gourmet Food Truck

Mahi Tacos and French Fries.
Well today I finally caught up with the Curbside Gourmet Food Truck, they offer Local, Fresh, and Seasonal Street Food at a great price! Today I order their Mahi Tacos special and a side of french fries. The Mahi Tacos came with fresh tomatoes and a homemade Avocado Dressing, and the french fries where fresh cut shoestring style. The tacos had an excellent taste and flavor and the Mahi was fresh and at 2/$5 was a great price. They also had Korean BBQ Pork Slider w/Pickled Cucumbers which I did not try but looked very good also, which I hope to try on my next visit to the Curbside Gourmet. To find out where they are going to be serving their delicious gourmet food you can follow them on their FaceBook Page.
